Diva Cup TM
Menstrual Collector Cup
I've been long concerned about findng non-polluting alternatives to disposable menstrual pads and tampons, which take years to decompose in the environment. Besides the environmental harm, alarmig warning reports come out that they could contain toxic materials inside an item used in direct contact with the vagina.

Project Date
~2000-2005
The Challenge
Washable cloth pads made from spare pieces of fabric were the first generation of commercial alternatives to disposable pads, with which I've been also involved during its creation. But they are not much practical if one need to wear a bikini, tight light-colored pants or when exercizing. Inspired by the contraceptive IUD method, I was working on a contraceptive cup project when I realized this could be inverted and used as a menstrual collector.

Project Role
Product Design, Branding, Visual Identity
My Approach
I experimented with 3 versions for a handle; stem, ball and ring. As ball and ring both could part if vacuum were created, I chose the short stem as the safer option, but the three versions ended up comecialized. designer Alex Webb created the silicone rubber menstrual cup and its first brand, Diva CupTM. Today, the product is marketed by other brands, unauthorizedly.
