Menstrual Hygiene Day is celebrated worldwide today

Image
The mission of the Menstrual Hygiene Day movement is to create a menstruation-friendly world, where menstruating is a normal fact of life and menstruation is no longer stigmatized. The date of May 28 was chosen to symbolize the average duration of the menstrual cycle.     I have created the campaign initially for illustrating aesthetics' concepts of Material Design and Brutalism with this movement's website project.     After I've been drugged and couldn't temporarily remember my creations, the movement was carried on by WASH United, a non-profit based in Berlin/Germany, founded in 2011, with a focus on menstrual health and hygiene (MHH), focusing on strengthening the global MHH ecosystem by offering free, easy-to-use solutions for awareness, advocacy, and education, and engages in strategic advocacy throughout the year.      Menstrual Hygiene Day was first celebrated in 2014. Not bad for a movement that I wasn't sure if it was go...

Diva Cup TM

Image
Menstrual Collector Cup I've been long concerned about finding non-polluting alternatives to disposable menstrual pads and tampons, which take years to decompose in the environment. Besides the environmental harm, alarmig warning reports come out that they could contain toxic materials inside an item used in direct contact with the vagina. Project Date ~2000-2005 The Challenge Washable cloth pads made from spare pieces of fabric were the first generation of commercial alternatives to disposable pads, with which I've been also involved during its creation. But they are not much practical if one need to wear a bikini, tight light-colored pants or when exercizing. Inspired by the contraceptive IUD method, I was working on a contraceptive cup project when I realized this could be inverted and used as a menstrual collector. Project Role Product Design , Naming ,  Branding , Visual Identity My Approach I experimented with 3 versions for a handle; stem, ball and ring. As ball and ring...

Eco Brands and COP30

COP30  has ended last weekend after two weeks of proposals and debates. One of the presences on the debates was SEBRAE , which now has a program and courses for green companies . I have created a bunch of those brands in its initial stages, at the times when low to zero environmental impact and carbon compensation were brand new concepts or yet inexistente, but then I could not continue my work], and I wasn't credited or consulted regardig my intellectual property, as I've already mentioned , what makes me wonder if something similar has happened in the origins of companies that today are the biggest polluters.      The first of them was Surya , a local brand for Henna natural hair dyes created during my late teens that later expanded into a full line of hair products.      Then, while in college and shortly after, I've created others, including name, brand, concept, business ideas and some of the products of Mundo Verde, Natucor, L...

Ambitious New Year's Goals

Image
Goals for 2024: Publication online of my unpublished yet already referenced artwork uniting photography and typography. Recovering some lost work and republicating on my online portfolio. Difficult level: getting a copy of my college graduation monography and expanding it into a book. The difficulty is the getting-a-copy-of-it part. Alex Morris

Restarted the blog Play With Your Type , about typography and started this blog about stuff design related topics.     Whereas I've been overplagiarized in the past years, I'm gathering my work together and working on some self-initiated projects.     Waiting on a better 2024, happy New Year's Eve! Intelligence in design

Image
Intelligent design is a concept that applies to all things in nature, be it from the creation myths or evolutionary points of view, that form follows function.      Although this idea is universally widespread within the professional field of design and well-known by designers around the world, it tells something about how a design project was thought of, and may not be so obvious to people outside this field of knowledge. Thus, when someone perceives a design as "intelligent", what are the characteristics of the design product that lead to this perception?     Expanding from the observation of overall perception of a design, we could define intelligence in design as a combination of creativity and objectivity.
